Shortcut to calculating percent change

I can't be the only person that knows this trick, but I've found more people using the past number minus current number, divided by past number method and I’m baffled at how people don’t use the shortcut below.

Traditional: (P1 – P2)/P1

Shortcut: (P2/P1)-1

Why is it shorter? It’s quicker when using a calculator. No need to type in the past number (P1) twice.
